Tuning & voicing

I work on all types of voices: flute, bassoon, piccolo, and all combinations of registers.

The tremolo is the result of the slight detuning between two voices playing the same note. The greater the gap, the more pronounced the tremolo.

• Dry (pure): no tremolo, flat sound
• Half-swing: very light tremolo
• Swing: moderate tremolo
• American: broad tremolo
• Celeste: between American and musette
• Musette: pronounced tremolo

If you are not sure which tremolo to choose, we can talk it through. I can also work from references (a piece of music, a musician, a recording).

A good tuning only holds if the instrument is in good condition. Before starting, I check:

• The condition of the bellows and the compression
• The reed blocks (airtightness)
• The waxing of the reeds
• The valve leathers and ventils
